I was surprised by the fact that they went through with Min Sook as a child groom, the usual method is as Dramallama stated, leave the country and return a Grown Man. I was glad they snuck in Jin Woo. After lasts weeks episode I was unsure how they would incorporate him into the story; his interactions with our main couple seemed kinda final last week.
Let's hope he is successful in his next love with the cute car girl. Here's hoping they have a Jin Woo spinoff!! A Jin-woo spin off would be amazing! Though less likely to happen. I think Lee Hyoo Suk did a really good job in this role, I was worried about him taking on this challenge.
Despite some hijinks in his character development, he really pulled off Jin-woo till the end. Hope we can have that kind of guy in real life. Now, I will seriously suffer from withdrawal syndrome. I expected, more of hyung Seo in guk and highschooler Seo in guk interactions.. Anyways, it was a one hell of a joyous ride..
Thanks to all recappers and fellow beanies, who have made this ride more fun and enjoyable. I was trying to place why that lady seemed familiar and yes, that is Yang Eun-bi. I'm going to miss this show so much, especially Ricecake ajhussi. This episode is going down as one of my favourite drama finales this year, I was laughing from start to finish.
This show was really awesome, here's to hoping My Secret Hotel would be just as good as this drama or maybe better. You'r so right, rushie…that word describes my entire feeling after I watched the finale "Thank you very kamsa".
Thank you very kamsa for being ridiculous to the very end! I mean it! Sure, getting married at 18 for a guy to a woman 10 years older than him sounds unrealistic, but I for one am glad that the drama doesn't take the conventional ending I thought it was going to. Thank you dramallama for the recap, and the rest of the dramabean team! Savvy has been such a wonderful ride, sure it has its down bits, but the overall goodness of the show has made it a new gem in my heart.
I actually didn't intend to watch this drama, until after reading four episodes of recap. Boy am I glad to use this as my comeback drama. My favourite scene was actually when they were opening up to each other on the streets.
When Min Suk started crying, I just teared up. I was just like omg I love these two idiots. The cameo by Lee Chung-ah! I haven't seen her since Flower boy ramyun shop!
Although I was annoyed at how the writer felt they had to make a pairing for Jin-woo. I rethought again, and realised it's not necessarily that they will end up together. It's more the fact that Jin-woo is now open enough to accept these type of encounters and roll with it. Which makes me so happy to see, him grow up well. Seo In Guk and Lee Hana are really the stars of the show, but the love and attention paid to the surrounding characters are also what really makes this drama shine.
I also loved how simple and straightforward some issues were treated, no need for too much angsty, because hey like dramallama says "you gotta drop the realism and enjoy the cute". I do wish they developed Hyung's story more, and he wasn't even at the wedding. But overall I'm very satisfied with the extensions, and the whole drama overall. I didn't see an OTP moment for them, just his realization that if someone offers him friendship and love then he should be open.
I DID wonder if it was some kind of meta-private joke and maybe he had "lost" her to a first lead in another drama and the writers were joking about that, giving us a wink as sometimes happens in kdramas. Could have had him pop up at the wedding and that would have been quite satisfying : 2 Missing dad during that 3 years later segment, he was the only one - minus hyung where we didn't know what happened to him afterwards.
All in all, the finale served its purpose and concluded a wonderful little story that made my mondays and tuesdays a bit better. Same here, been looking for hyung at the wedding and dad after the time jump, seeing as it was dad's home, too Gonna miss this show so much! Thanks Dramallama and Purplecow for bringing us the recaps, you helped me understand and appreciate the show more with your insights.
Thank you very kamsa! Seo In Guk - wow. I only saw the character! Minuses: the mystery of the brother wasnt very smooth, Jin Woo going from jerk to gentle guy neither. I never said that before in my life and I did not think I would but it would be fun to be a high schooler again just once. Okay, I am going o the record to say that SIG is officially the best kisser in kdramaland.. I know, I was a Lee Jin Wook fan, too, but there is really no comparison.
He had me at the cast kiss. Definitely yeah! Best kiss scene and marriage proposal in dramaland, ever!! I was on the verge of tears. I felt so happy for Min Suk and Soo Young as if they were real people, even more, as if they were family already. This show has made all these characters so real and lovable, I just want to adopt them all.
They really feel like a big family. This last episode was so hearthwarming. I will miss them so much :'. I think he did a really great job here though and I'm ready to see him as a leading man in a drama.. Point taken. But if you're willing to make him a good guy by the end, especially with that sad miserable life and the unresolved issues will he stay off the pills now? With a perfect English accent, she says " U okay? He can barely mutter a thank you when she just flashes a smirk and says in a lower tone [because we're fed up with loud female leads] : "Be careful on the way home".
As she turns to leave, jogging, Jin Woo stops her and asks to see her again "to pay her back". She says that she doesn't hang out with rich kids, no matter how good-looking they are. Tomorrow at 5 am, in front of XX. Don't be late. Jin Woo just watches her run, and says : "I could definitely use some exercise". Min Suk and Soo Young will be there too, their married life ups and downs. I wasn't really sure of the whole marriage idea either. Marriages are But dang! The acting skillz of Min Suk when he looked at Soo Young, the look of love and devotion and worship in his eyes!
I totally melted. And wasn't that wedding the best counter-culture dramatic moment of the year??? There is a lot in this drama that is counter-culture but a wedding with poor folks in a school yard.. I don't think I've ever seen that in a drama ever. The popcorn "proposal ring" was the best ever. So many couples go into debt to get this "rock" on their hands, or have a wedding to show off to the guest and to the family.
Everything here was done for love! All the guests are present because of love. There is total transparency and honest.. I didn't feel hyung's absence at all; hyung has always been slowly disappearing Yes Miss Carole, you're so right about the look. I didn't know how to describe that look except that it made me feel warm and mushy and tingly Carole - I think being counter-culture is what made this whole drama work - Soo-young never let cultural mores define her life, I think she was ahead of her time in some ways by just being herself.
Min-seok never got points for smarts, he really was a thinker and a doer. I was so impressed that when his hockey career ended that he was able to put it in perspective and barely miss a beat in life. Really, that is something for a high school dude. Min-seok knew the value of family and way loyal. Dramabay has the special, yay!!!! But it isn't subbed yet. I too wasn't convinced with the marriage idea at first.
I was saying to them: "Are you guys sure? Marriage is not all lovey dovey and you are going to solve a problem with another huge step? I will probably be one of the lady colleagues who try to talk her out of it at first. But this drama is already fighting norms so my reality bites are thrown out the window. You can kinda teared me up a bit with that comment.
Love in a marriage can be very complex. But it can be a grand journey when both believe in it and want to make it happen. I loved High School King so, so much when it first began but my heart went from bursting like popcorn in anticipation of a new episode to feeling underwhelmed.
I still don't know what happened, though some commentators had some good ideas in the previous recap. I can't help but shake the thought of when literally every person you know is telling you something is a bad idea, maybe it really is a bad idea, along with what would have been so terrible about Minseok going to Germany for a bit.
Long distance relationships can certainly work and some space may have been good for them both to continue to grow and mature before coming back together. But no, we need a wedding and we need it ASAP because getting married will somehow magically solve all of their problems; couldn't bring myself to drop the realism and just enjoy the cute even if it's a LOT of cute - the fast forward wedding was hilarious, not to mention a good symbol of their own rushing into things.
I don't quite want to flip a table, but I do want to throw my hands up in the air. Still, thank you for the recap! Jinwoo's role generally called for a more subtle touch, but I thought Lee Soohyuk did it well and looked smoking hot in those suits as a bonus and I continue to love Yoo Ah. I hope her life right after the wedding wasn't too awkward, considering her new brother-in-law, but I'm glad she's moved on to a guy who appreciates her.
Overall still a fun little show and one I'm glad I got to watch and chat with all of my fellow commentators about.
Not sure if there would be joy in that. So much of going to Germany seemed to be equated with "and you don't know how bad it'll be for Korea in the future.
Cause so many people leave Korea or native homelands and never return. Min Suk's decision felt like a belief in the possibility of the homeland. Interesting observation! I was thinking about it on a smaller scale, how it could have been nice for him to finally be in the same country as his hyung for a while, how they could have gotten to know each other again, and bonded as a family with their father.
He doesn't owe hyung anything though, so I could understand a decision not to go and to instead stay in Korea with his friends and Sooyoung. I havent watch a drama where i was so satisfied with all the kisses the real ones and the smooches too damn cute. I keep wondering if ths drama will have a special place in Seo In Guk's heart because of his own parents' experience-- meeting each other, getting pregnant, SIG being born nine months later, and their marriage being registered the day they registered his birth.
With such a family background, he might well believe in quickie marriages and love. I think the quicky marriage in this case was a way out of hesitation, uncertainty, undecisiveness.
If that's the sort of parents and marriage that sows out the likes of a Seo In Guk into the world, I'm all for it :. I miss this show already Ugh, I'll be suffering from SIG withdrawals now Omygosh, I will miss this show and the characters terribly!
I felt like I was giving away my own kid when Min-seok was marrying Soo-young. Seo in guk and Lee hana portrayed their characters really well and they looked awfully awesome together and were so comfortable around each other, proven in the kissing scenes.
I wouldn't be surprised if they two end up together in real life :. Yes them being comfortable with eachother really helped their chemistry. The director even said that's what really made their characters work together :. How respectful and gentlemanly! I love it. Was everything rushed? Drama viewership ratings for the week of Dec.
