Jagdish Vijay , an army captain, is back in Mumbai for a holiday to be with his parents and two sisters. They want him to get married and finds a bride Nisha Kajal Aggarwal for him. After the usual bickerings the couple fall in love.
Meanwhile Jagadish an intelligence officer in the military, has a mission to crack down on terrorist sleeper cells in Mumbai. How Jagadish moving around as an ordinary person using his brain and brawn in the correct measure, tracks down the terrorist in his own unique way forms the rest of this escapist entertainer.
It features Vijay and Kajal Aggarwal in the lead roles, while Vidyut Jammwal portrays the main antagonist. Jayaram and Sathyan portray supporting roles. The film, produced by S. Thankfully, it is still not available in many theaters. Even though the best DVD copies are available in the market, there are very few in retail stores.
The chief reason for this delay is due to the lack of proper marketing strategies by the film makers. Another reason for this delay is because of an issue with the copy protection system. It is quite surprising that AR Murugadoss had not released the film in most theaters, leaving most movie fans in South India high and dry.
They were waiting to watch the full-length theatrical trailer, three minutes long, provided by AR Murugadoss for no charge on Youku or Tudou. The problem was that the IT officials of Malaysia and Singapore had rejected over 15 copies sent by My4Movie without any valid reason.
My4Movie then uploaded a pirated version of the trailer on YouTube. The Malaysian and Singaporean authorities were not able to arrest the downloaders, because they were unknown entities. The officials stated it was a violation of the Copyright Act. The output of Thuppakki has been delayed due to several issues which included unavailability of quality digital copies of the film for theatrical exhibition, lack of proper marketing strategies by the film makers after completion of shooting and several other issues that arose during post-production phase.
